The truth of a form cannot end with the depiction of its surface.
The truth of a form cannot end with the depiction of its surface. The composition of the human body within its environment has been, and remains, the driving force to which I have dedicated my attention for years. Through the layering of sharp and blurred elements, I offer the viewer the possibility to search for their own truth.
Time too gnaws at appearances, continually forming overlapping layers. Forgetting is a process that leads us away from ourselves toward idealised images, exerting a destructive influence on our own identity and stifling our further development.
My works explore the question of the image we constantly compare against our ideal self-images, and whose identity we follow. Our surroundings, the people around us, those we interact with daily, transfer us – depending on the context – from one self to another. We find ourselves subject to this behaviour, whether we want to be or not. Just as we put on a different mask according to circumstance, misled into believing we appear more interesting or important.
With my work I want to reveal my view of the world to the viewer – not forcefully, but more subtly – with the freedom to tear off one's own false mask through observation and reflection.
